Discovery FOR TEENS is more than a simple demonstration; it offers teens a hands-on experience in the world of puppetry. Creativity and teamwork are front and centre as the students go through every step of putting together a show: making a giant puppet, writing a script, rehearsing and performing for the group. After being introduced to the principles of giant puppet theatre, the students are divided into teams and must decide how best to divide the tasks involved in creating their show. The playwrights must concoct a story based on a given theme and characters chosen from a list devised by the group, while their teammates piece together the giant puppets. Participants will also have the opportunity to experiment with the harness technique to manipulate their giant puppets. After a few rehearsals, the teams perform their piece.
Each team performs a skit with assistance from the activity leaders: narration, music and sound effects; manipulation, synchronization and choreography—no detail is overlooked in creating a magical experience. Participants will also be given a tour of the workshops, backstage area and performance hall of Théâtre de la Dame de Cœur.
